Updated . This notice covers the Gerry and Vanagon restoration websites and their community services. The JA1 websites are preview/restoration addresses, not the original historical source.
Historical records and modern contributions
The Gerry mailing-list record begins in 1994 and recovery continues through the present. It is not limited to 2011. Historical messages, dated Vanagon website captures, original Files and new community contributions have different sources and coverage. See preservation status for known gaps; a stored record is not proof of complete recovery.
Historical messages may contain names, contact details or other information originally published by their authors. Preserved original evidence is separate from the public reading copy and its disclosure rules. A historical attribution or matching email address does not establish current mailbox ownership, consent, subscription or a claimed account.
Accounts, profiles and mailing-list records
- Account services store an email address, display name, authentication records, password hashes for password accounts, and sessions or verification records needed for supported sign-in flows.
- Profile visibility is separate from posting. Public profiles show the fields allowed by their public projection; private account details and optional identity fields are not a public subscriber directory. Historical profile candidates are not automatically claimed or made public.
- Mailing-list membership, delivery preferences, pauses, suppressions, processing decisions and delivery/provider receipts are separate operational records. Creating a website account or joining chat does not automatically subscribe you to list mail.
Posts, uploads and chat
Accepted public forum and email contributions may appear with their display attribution, dates and permitted images in discussions, weekly archives, search, feeds and public readers. Do not include information you do not want published. Upload processing retains original evidence separately from approved public derivatives; an image URL is not permission to bypass visibility or moderation.
Chat is not a private message service. Guests can participate in the live room; signed-in members can access saved room history. Eligible public chat messages may also appear in public weekly archives. Weekly rollover changes the current view, not the existence of earlier messages. Chat does not send mailing-list email. Avoid sharing sensitive information, private contact details or credentials in the room.
Server events are recorded in UTC. Contributions may also include a client-observed time, timezone and UTC offset supplied by the device. Readers can see human-readable times in their device timezone; this does not change archive membership or prove a person's location.
Cookies, browser storage and operational processing
First-party cookies support authentication and security. Browser storage can retain interface preferences and a guest chat nickname. The exact cookies depend on the authentication and security flow; this is not a promise that only one cookie is used. Signing out ends the website session but does not itself unsubscribe a mailing-list address or erase public contributions.
Hosting, database, object storage, email and security providers process information needed to operate these services. Request metadata, error records and correlation identifiers support reliability, abuse prevention and recovery. Private mail evidence, account records, membership records and credentials are not intended for public discovery.
Public APIs, search and AI clients
Public search, API, GPT and MCP readers expose eligible public content and citations, not authority to post, subscribe or read private account or subscriber records. When you use an external AI client, information you submit to that client is also subject to its provider's terms and privacy policy. Saved member chat history is not automatically available through the public research readers. A public descriptor or filename does not mean a client has inspected the underlying image or file.
Do not assume ordinary list email, forum posts or chat provide end-to-end encryption. Support for signed or encrypted mail depends on the format and processing policy; encryption or a signature is not consent to public disclosure. Never send private keys, passwords or recovery codes as community content.
Retention, corrections and your choices
Public contributions, frozen editions, original evidence, backups and operational records are separate records. Weekly rollover is not deletion, and changing a profile does not rewrite historical authorship. Removal of a public reading copy does not necessarily erase retained source evidence, backups, delivered email or copies held by other readers and search services. This notice does not promise a universal deletion deadline.
Use account controls for available profile choices and the mailing-list help for supported delivery changes. For access, correction, removal, attribution or retention questions, contact the maintainers through the about page. Include the relevant public URL and your request, not passwords or verification tokens. Requests need review of identity, source evidence and the affected public and operational records; no automatic historical claim or deletion is implied.
