Denver breakdown

21 june 2001

Argh. After all this, I'm finally in deep doodoo. Late yesterday afternoon the dashboard lit up and the temp needle showed it was hot. I immediately stopped but coolant was gushing out. I checked the oil, which had just been changed in Louisiana, and it was low. I added oil and tried to add coolant to no avail - it just poured out on the ground.

I managed to flag down a car on Interstate 70 (thank God for the occasional Good Samaritan) since I, of course, am not carrying a cell phone. He took me to the next truck stop where I called AAA. A bolt had come loose which holds the outlet from the coolant tank. He towed me to a mechanic who replaced the bolt and attempted to refill the coolant. No good. The coolant gushed out of the head. I'm now at Our Garage, a mechanic's shop in Aurora, CO awaiting a diagnosis and I will probably be here for a very expensive week.
