What about steering rack bushings?  We found sloppiness in the front end of a
van recently.  I was under the van while the customer turned the steering
wheel and you could see the rack move!  The bushings were shot.  4 new
bushings later ($6 each from me) and everything was happy again.
Just a suggestion.
