Don't think this got directly answered, so here's my 2 cents worth: Check the sticker on the driver's side door post. You'll see the Gross Vehicle weight in total, and the weight on the front and rear axles. Choose tires such that one tire will support at least half the weight on the rear axle (the heavier one). ------------- Fred 91 GL S2 wrote: > > What is the recommended tire load that should appear on the tires, then? > Thanks, > Steve > > -----Original Message----- > From: David..M <dmc@CYBURBAN.COM> > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> > Date: Saturday, March 20, 1999 12:17 PM > Subject: Re: Tire question.. > > >C or D has absolutely nothing to do with plies, it has to do > >(supposedly) with the max load. > >In fact, the C or D has no official meaning even regarding max load. > >The official max load is stamped on the tire sidewall as 'max load', > >often called 'load index'. > >I have found several C rated tires with an insufficient 'max load' for > >the Vanagon. > >
