Are the numbers quoted for the 1.9l engine for a 1.9l D or a 1.9l TD
running without its turbo?
Please forgive my ignorance, but I have heard that engines designed to
run with a turbo become gutless when the turbo fails or is removed.
Supposedly a turbo-less turbo-motor is less powerful than an otherwise
identical non-turbo-motor.
Apparently it has something to do with lowered compression ratios
(17:1 vs 22:1, and 7:1 vs 9:1 for gas), combined with lowered air and
fuel into the cylinder, less than optimum ignition and valve timing
etc.
Is this true? Thank you.
