I read a story in a Swedish mag about two engineers that welded together two type 4 2,0 to make a 8-cylinder VW boxer. While the engine of course was a piece of art in itself(it was sitting in the back of a fibreglass buggy!), the injectionsystem was pure Vanagon 2,1 (euro) and they simply spliced in another set of injectors, so that the computer didnt know if it was feeding 4 or 8 cylinders.
