"Dennis is right" I put a pair of gabriel hijackers on the rear of my last van and they were listed for the vanagon and astro van.
drove for a few thousand and did not notice anything. Had some problems with the Michelin tires and had the van on a lift and noticed the rear axles binding during rotation. Dug into the specs for the shocks and found too much travel, these shocks were made for an american van and just offered for the vanagon
I suspect all american shocks are the same as the vanagon has too small a number for production. this is the same problem with american belts!
This may be the cause of the cheap Chinese axels crapping out as most people would put shocks on when changing axels and due to price they would be american.
I suspect they would have destroyed my axels over time.>
