Update -- my '84 is a VW Service by Ron on Daytona Beach.   I called Ron
before heading north yesterday.  #1 intake valve suck in the valve
guide.  Ron has head off and will go to machine shop for removal of old
valve and installation of new one.  According to Ron, other valves on
the head are okay and no evidence of concern for valves on other head.
I will be going back south to pick up van next week.
