Thanks for all your thoughts on this problem. Just reporting back to say it's been fixed. Turns out I had two bad relays (fuel pump relay and the ecu relay). Once both were replaced, the stalling and hard restart problem cleared up. 20 years is a long time for those relays to work - pretty impressive, actually. And I figured out why I was hearing what I thought was the fuel pump run continuously when I just replaced the fuel pump relay. It was actually engaging the idle stabilizer faster than my old relay, so I mistook the idle stabilizer buzzing for the fuel pump buzzing. All cleared up now - on to the next thing (cleaning gunk under the luggage rack and putting little screens in the drain holes - that should be fun) Mark On Sun, Jul 18, 2010 at 9:20 PM, Scott Daniel - Turbovans < scottdaniel@turbovans.com> wrote: > If you are 'sure' that the thing that keeps it from firing up is lack of > fuel pump running ... > you're on the right track with the fuel pump relay .. > though if your used one made the fp be on steadily ...that's sure not > right. > > IF ...it is simply a matter of fuel pump control...no parts like oxygen > sensor etc are involved.. > Listening for the fp to pre-run is a very good habit.
