Subject:Mechanic's shorthand?
From:Rocket J Squirrel

I was looking over the tab from my local mechanic, who I tasked with
looking for loose transmission mounts, engine mounts, CV joints, or other
things responsible for a slight "thunk" I hear when I pull my foot off the
gas (didn't find anything); and I saw that on the ticket he had identified
the "Engine Type" as "1.9 A".

This is a 1984 AT Vanagon with a 1.9l, don't know what the "A" might mean.
Guesses?
