I spent the last couple of weeks getting an old westy galley installed into my 87 Country Homes Camper. Finally got it in and running after the nerve-wracking task of cutting a hole in the van for the flue vent on thursday! Friday I filled the propane tank, fired up the fridge and headed out for the Brazos River in Glen Texas for a weekend of camping with a few of the Dallas Air-Coolers Gang. The fridge got down to about 42 degrees fairly quickly and stayed around that temp for the whole drive down, about 2 and a half hours. Outside temps wer around 90 degrees. I dont have the DC connection made yet so propane was my only option while driving, and I was not able to pre-cool it on AC power so was pretty pleased with the propane performance. No problems staying lit while on the highway either.
Once on site I went to AC operations and the fridge really went to work. When I woke up saturday morning it was 65 in the Van and 24 in the fridge!! My milk had ice in it!!
I have to say I am very pleased with the performance of the old Domectic, and the stove worked very well also. I feel I have the perfect set-up for my needs, the roominess of the full width back seat/bed and the Westy galley makes it a very nice camper.
The Camp and Fish Ranch in Rainbow, Texas is an awesome out of the way private campground, lots of shade, full hook-ups, nice hot showers and good river accs for $20 a night. A very nice weekend was had by all!
