Robert Put this back together as a 2.1 the crank has a longer stroke and for all the trouble of a rebuild you should be upgrading to a bigger engine. The other BIG problem you will face is the main bearing fit in the case. While the new bearing might seem tight it's not and the small amount if any press fit you have will be gone in the next few thousand miles. I am not kidding!! Find a 2.1 core and start there do it right and do it once I have a good selection of used dip stick tubes and other engine components the dip stick should push threw the case and come out the other side P mail me if you want the main bearing article I wrote about 1.9 main bearings should be in the archives as well going faster miles and hour with the radio on I remain Bob Donalds Boston Engine Exchange http://www.bostonengine.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Keezer" <warmerwagen@YAHOO.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Tuesday, March 14, 2006 8:36 PM Subject: Chunka Bologna > Ok so I'm putting a 1.9 back together after > asking around and reading anything else to look > at before putting the case together and it looks > Like I get to be the one who has the future > advice. > > Where in anyone's instructions is the topic of > broken off dipstick tube in case discussed? > > I have'nt found it- because that's what I > discovered after its all sealed up- there's about > an inch or so of tube in the dipstick hole, as I > remember seeing broken dipstick tube in the box > (This was a basket case) with brazing on the end. > > > So it had broken, and the PO brazed it. > > I have a good replacement tube.
