The lower thermostat housing for the syncro is alloy (metal) while the cover
is the same as the 2wd 2.1l.  You can swap them I guess but you would also
need to rewire the temp II sensor plug and also the Temperature gauge sender
plug as these sensor are different from the Syncro and 2wd.  I have some
Syncro Lower thermostat housings used for $100 if you need one.  They are
bead blasted and look new if that makes you feel better.  I need your old
one as a core.
