Subject:Demons in my engine, water in my gas tank?
From:Steve Gough

Dear list,

Still hunting demons after another afternoon
of troubleshooting, and there is still a $100
prize to be had. See www.emriver.com/vandemon.htm

My advisors think maybe I still have water in
the gas tank. I know I can check for that by
pulling the outlet tube. But three questions:

Can water hide in low spots in the tank? When
I drained it (twice) I jacked the driver's front of
the van to make the outlet the (supposedly) lowest
spot, where the bad Juju would gather. Right?

Second, are there other places that the H2O could
have hidden? Enough to escape two tankfulls of good
gas I've run through?

Third: I probably have leaks in the top of the tank.
I have NOT driven the van in the rain since cleaning
the tank, but we have had a lot of rain. Is is possible
for rainwater to get into the tank with the van sitting
still?

Water in the gas would nicely explain all the problems
I'm having. And why I get quite a bit of exhaust steam
(for two or three minutes) when I start the engine cold.

TIA,

Steve Gough
