My battery cover hasn't had screws in it since the day I got my van, it just
lies over the battery and under the carpet flap.  As far as long jumper
cables, I have an auxilary battery under my back seat, so when I need a
jump, I can jump from that battery - don't need to count on somebody else
being around to borrow their battery's juice.
