I've had a "fake alarm light" on the dashboard of all of our cars for years. Radio Shack has a 12v flashing red LED, that's perfect. Put it in the dash, wire it so that it comes on when you remove the key. LED's draw very little current, and to the observer, your alarm is always "armed".
