I thought I would solve my hard shifting by putting Redline oil in my trans, but on the way home from the only place in Denver that has it (8$ a quart!) my clutch slave cylinder popped. I repaired it and suddenly the hard shifting went away! Apparently it was not retracting all the way and the synchros were dragging. Wonder how much damage THAT did! Question: does my 5 speed have synchros on all gears including reverse? While the clutch was broken I could not find the straight teeth. Anyway I had the Redline oil so I put it in but it seemed to not be full with 4 quarts. How much should the 5 speed diesel transaxle take? It seemed to be a pinkie's ends length below the plug. In any case, shifting now is super fine!
