Subject:Diff btw '84 Jetta gas and diesel oil pumps?
From:Tobin Copley

Hi all, quick question:

I have a 1982 vanagon diesel powered by a 1984 Jetta 1.6L NA diesel
motor. I've got a low oil pressure problem, so I'm going to take a
flyer and replace the oil pump and main engine bearings in the hope
that will resolve the problem or at least buy me some time to save
for a rebuild on the engine. I cannot afford a rebuild or engine
upgrade at this time.

I've had a very generous offer from a fellow vanagon list listee of a
*new* oil pump out of a 1.6L jetta gasoline engine. I'd like to
confirm this pump will work in my bus before he goes to the trouble
of packing it up and mailing it to me.

Question: will the Jetta gas pump work on my jetta diesel engine? (I
know I'll have to swap the oil pick up tubes for use in the Vanagon.)

Thanks!

T.
