Saw an ad in the New Orleans paper for an 82 VW camper. No price
listed, so I called and they were asking $600 !! They said it had some
rust, but I figured that at that price, I could swap fridges if it
worked better than my 89's and keep the pop-top in my attic for a spare
and offer the rest to the list. So I went and looked at it. Well IMO,
it's not worth $600. First, it's an aftermarket camper conversion. It
had one hubcap which had a castle emblem in the middle, so I thought it
was a Wolfsburg, but the rear hatch said Vanagon L with no other special
markings. A generic sunroof in the top (no pop-top) with cheapo roof
rack like on old station wagons, a pedestal galley with fridge, stove
and sink in the usual place but not as nice looking as the late Westies'
(fan in fridge door !?). A full-width rear bed seat with no closets.
On the phone, I was told it was driven daily until 18 months ago when
the current owner bought it as a restoration project that never got off
the ground.
When I drove up and saw it wasn't a Westy, I was disappointed. I
took a quick look around at it and decided not even $50 - it wasn't
worth the trouble to tow. Didn't examine all the rust, but it had
severe cancer at bottom of windshield.
So anyway, that's my opinion. I figured I would at least pass it on
if anyone else is interested. It's in Slidell, LA which is at I-10
close to Mississippi border.
I don't want to post the number, since she didn't ask me to, but you can

It's not mine. I just figured someone else might see something in it
that I don't.Have something to add on this topic today? Revive this thread in the forum »
