I posted a few days ago that I had a 89 camper that the alternator would not charge the battery. The engine would die if I disconnected the battery while running nad I had just replaced the alternator thinking that the problem was there. Thanks for everyone's input. It turned out to be a bad connection at the panel terminal 11. This is part of the terminal that plugs into the cluster instrument. With that connection bad, the light for the battery indicator in the dash never came on when I would start the engine, and apparently without that circuit going through the dash and the red LED, the alternator does not charge except at very high RPM's. What a simle thing, in retrospect, but on Sunday it cost me the labor of replacing an alternator and a 90 mile tow to get home when that failed to work. Again thanks to everyone who suggested this and especially to David Beierl who sent me the Bentley description of troubleshooting. Sorin
