ok here goes i hope that you can offer some help with my problem
I have a 1988 gl vanagon i have drove it since i bought it only
a week ago about 500 miles
I bought gas for it one night it ran fine till the next morning i
drove it about 15 miles after getting gas
parked it ,then got back in it the next morning after it had sat over
night ,the outside temp was about 24 deg. i let it warm for about
5min or so . I got in it to go to work about t 32 miles away about
7-10 miles into the trip it starts to lose power then at a stop light
it shuts off. i restart it and try to continue with my daily
commute to work it starts to chug and stutter and chug ( I am thinking
water in the line )but i have since drained the fuel out and put in
i think good gas and 2 cans of dry gas but to no avail. also it is
using aloooot of gas it has went through 1/4 tank of gas in about
50 miles .I have also replaced the fuel filter.( I am a 15 year air
cooled veteran) I hope that you can help i do my own work so
anyone that could help thank you
ok ok I know that there is a answer out there for what i am
going
through with my 88 gl please o mother please if anyone could help
let it be now . my new addition to the family seems to have this
problem
it runs rough it stalls and it chugs and bucks it produces black puff
as it does its thing. when it gets to operating temperature it does
this while it is cold and not up to the temp it is ok. i have
replaced the fuel filter and that is it .I am an (15 year veteran for
air cooled vw's) this is a whole new ball game for me please if
there is anyone out there to help i would love to hear from you . I
am going tomorrow to get a fuel pressure gauge but i have no idea what
it is suppose to be how much pressure is suppose to be on the system ?
how long is the pressure suppose to be up to that mark after engine
cut off has there been any recalls been on the vanagon ?is the a fuel
pressure regulator ? do they go bad could this be a mass air flow meter
problem ? does the cyl head temp switch have anything to do with this
problem? if so where is it located?I need help !
i have worked on it for 3 days and still no fix now the water temp
flashes but does not stay on
is it the fuel pressure reg. valve stuck ?
