I really don't understand the clamor to update or replace the hardware
that the list server and archives run on. The list seems to run pretty
well to me except for the occasional outages that are probably
software-related problems that won't be cured by a speedier CPU.

There was mention of archive searches timing out. If you're having this
problem try narrowing down your search parameters. For example, instead
of searching the entire archives, just search one year at a time. If
that still times out, try searching a six month period, etc. With a
little work, I've always managed to find what I was looking for in the
archives.
