Subject:83.5 Waterbox Dash Voltage Stabilizer

I am on my 4th one of these. Each one I put in will work for a while
(from 2-6 months) and then will suddenly "half blow" (for lack of a better
term). In the "half blown" state both the fuel and temp gages will read
about 1/3 more than they should. This will remain for anywhere from 2 weeks
to 3 months when the chip will finally die compleatly. During all of this
the clock may, or may not, speed up or slow down. For the first 2 chips the
clock went nuts about a week before the "half blow" and stayed nuts until
the chip was replaced, For the last 2 chips all was well with the clock.
I have been unable to find a cause for this. I have the Bently Manual. In
there are three pictures of the chip. All are shown with all three legs
inserted into connectors. On my Van there are only 2 connectors; the middle
leg is hanging in the air, not connected to anything. Rumaging through the
junk yards I have seen 3 other dashboards (year unknown) these also have
the middle leg hanging in the air.
The wireing diagrams I have in the Manual also have the middle leg
connected so I cannot trust any troubleshooting I have done.

Can anyone out there with a "two legged" chip help me with this?
Anyone know where I can get "tow legged" wireing diagrams?
What is the source of these "three legged" pictures and wireing diagrams?

If all else fails, anyone know where I can pick up a couple hundred of
these Voltage Stabilizers cheap?
