Super Lube it is. Found this article on lubing plastic gears. http://machinedesign.com/mechanical-drives/engineering-essentials-lubrication-tips-plastic-gears-and-more-part-2. In the Table 1, they reference, PAO oil is the most friendly to plastics compared to other oils. Super Lube is a PAO oil, with PTFE (Teflon) and Super Lube advertises it as compatible with plastics. -Dick- -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Dick Wong Sent: Monday, December 28, 2015 5:07 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Noisy speedo Thanks Gene. Going through the cable hole would have been my first attempt. Thanks for confirming it's doable and it yielded good results. -Dick- -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Gene P Sent: Monday, December 28, 2015 12:19 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Noisy speedo Dick Wong wrote: "That's a lot more than I ever want to get into the speedo." I willing to at least take the speedo assembly out of the instrument pod." *** If you want to start minimalist (cheap and easy), just pull the instrument cluster and flip it over, not the speedo out of the pod. Then drip maybe five or six drops of Super Lube into the little hole the cable goes into. I did this a year ago and not a sound since. Obviously not as precise or thorough as others are suggesting, but a quick and easy first try. Worked for me. Dennis says Super Lube and at 5 bucks, why not? I strongly suggest the bottle, not a spray can. Spraying into a confined hole tends to blow back and also lubricate your eyes, effective but painful. How would I know that? http://www.amazon.com/Super-Lube-51004-Synthetic-Viscosity/dp/B000UKUHXK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1451332998&sr=8-2&keywords=super+lube ----- No virus found in this message.
