yes, that may seem like a blanket statement..but.. it appears to be  true.
 in all my years into the vw hobby, it seems that most of the  stolen vw's
you hear about are always on the west coast...

maybe that's because all the vw's on the east coast have rusted away..  LOL

And any info on recovered Vanagons would also be of help,  especially
location of the recovery, condition, and how the theft might  have been
accomplished.
