I have had hankooks and found them dangerous at best in winter. Last year I ran old studded nokiana and ya, they rocked but I didn't really need the studded. This year I have continental snow tires on 15" rims and I'm amazed, there is no problem in snow and even mild ice. I simply cannot manage to spin a tire. Good snow tires are necessary to keep a two wheel drive Vanagon running in the winter. -craig On Mar 7, 2012, at 9:54 PM, Phil Zimmerman <philzimm1@SHAW.CA> wrote: > Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2012 09:38:11 -0500 > Reply-To: Tom Buese <tantonbz@GMAIL.COM> > > ----snip------- > > So, to get the conversation going, anyone got comparative experience > driving in icy snow w/ both Hakkas & Hankook tires? > As usual, > YMMV, > Mr. BZ-every 37 years you gotta do this. > ------------- > > Tom, welcome to age 40! > That short trip just added three years to your life…. :-) > > Glad to hear the BZman and pooch Carl arrived safe and sill crazy. > With the wheels, rubber side down and not on a flat deck Tow Truck. > Whoa, that sounded like a great trip! > > Hakki CQ snow tires turn the 2wd Vanagon into a snow-plow in the dry stuff. > Sniped so, wear pretty fast on dry hot roads is my only dis. > > Enjoy Maine.
