Chris, you explained that the owner manual PHOTOS were sometimes just there from a European model and that is what I replied to. The TEXT using the word chrome was certainly not just carried over from a European model. I have seen enough late Vanagons with steel caps to believe that SOME came that way. Whether they shipped that way or dealers installed them later I can't say and don't much care. I don't consider the pictures in the manuals to prove much since the books through 86 show the early plastic caps and steel ones while the later plastic caps show up in the 87 book along with the steel. I think the change in plastic happened a couple years sooner than reflected in the book photos.
