It seems that the subie 2.5s from 99-03 have a similar or worse life
expectancy as the vanagon wasserboxer.

but people still seem to like their cars, unlike some van newbies that
buy a 15-20 year old camper and expect it to have no major mechanical
issues..  which I agree.. the VW head corrosion is poor engineering,
either in metalurgy or design and function..
