Sorry for your bad experience.  This fee is rather common on both ebay
and autotrader as part of what used car brokers and dealers charge for
their cars.  I was looking for a Subaru for several months about this
time last year, hoping to get one with a good engine and so-so body to
drive and save for a conversion.  I saw this many times.

There is a lot of profit in this, just like the product insurance that
places like Best Buy sell to replace the product that isn't very likely
to break.

It isn't fun to have these "live and learn" experiences.  BTDT.
