I was looking at the photos of the South African Syncro at:

And started to think about that full length roof rack. I have
seen quite a few Land Rovers with double roofs in order to
stop the sun from beating down directly onto the vehicle's
roof.

Has anyone ever put a full length roof rack on a westy to
give themselves this kind of "portable shade"? a
la "Modifications for Difficult Journeys":
