I drove 2600 miles from New York to Arizona and kept careful gas mileage records.
I got almost exactly 15 mpg -  mostly driving at 60-65mph on freeways.
There were some long inclines, headwinds and hailstorms to contend with.
This on a van with recently rebuilt 2.1L engine and rebuilt auto trans, no roof rack.

The only thing I did before this troublefree trip was to check the tire pressures
and buy a new spare.
