Subject:Which car to sell and which to keep
From:Matthew Pollard

Morning y'all-
Quick background. My wife and i are poor grad students that have three
cars. The question was which one to sell: '70 ford PU, 90 Honda accord,
84 vanagon. Tough decision. The utilitiarian cars VS the pleasure
craft. These utilitiarian cars are the truck (we own a fix-er-up-er
house) and the honda (at 40 miles per gallon, and fast). The the Bus is
just the bus. But we love the bus.

So we went camping (in the rain) a few weekends ago in my wife's honda and
did some thinking and talking and reading the dozens of emails from this
list regarding this subject.

The main points were, in order 1) saftey 2) utility 3) reliability
4) costs and 5) pleasure

And here is what it boiled down to. We need the truck. Enough said, so
there. You own an old house, you just gotta have a truck. I don't want to
thrash my otherwise nice bus for wood and dump runs. (And purchasing a
trailer for the bus wasn't addressed).

The honda is too good to sell (reliable, safe, fast (expenive speeding
ticket though...) etc)) and the bus is, well, the bus!

We are in grad school and will be moving in three years. The truck is a
piece of junk and not worth moving with us, so we are going to sell/dump
the truck when we move, and in the mean time just deal with having three
cars. We didn't exactly save and $ but we did justify not selling the bus
(which was the other alternative).

Cheers!
