Subject:Why burning out a diesel glow plug in less than 40 miles?

Hi .. the continuing saga of my vanagon with low power - 45MPH max...In
removing the injectors once again I discovered a small blob of metal in #1
cylinder pre-chamber, cambelt end of engine, it was the tip of a glow
plug - I replaced them all 30-40 miles ago - they had all burnt out! - I
guess in hindsight I should of been more wary.

But...anyone got any insight as to why the one would burn out - Is it a pump
timing thing? Would that help explain low power?
I'm going to check timing this weekend!

Steve
