An enormous segment of my family, including Shay and his mom, gathered
yesterday to celebrate my mother's 84th birthday. All of her children
(5 daughters) were there. This has become more and more unusual because
we no longer live in the same town. I, of course, live in California,
one sister lives in Missouri, another in Baton Rouge, and 2 are still
in our hometown of Houma, Louisiana. There are also grandchildren living
in Florida and Texas. And now her grandchildren have grandchildren.
There were 2 new babies born within a month of each other. I attended
one christening and another will be held today, shortly after I hit
the road. It's been a wonderful quiet visit with my family but the time
has come to go home to California and my daughter, Jennifer.
I'll be stopping this afternoon in Lafayette, Louisiana (possibly
for the night), then another stop in Dallas, TX for a visit. I then
intend to go north to get Interstate 70 westward in Kansas, hoping that
this route will be a little cooler than I10 as my AC continues to plague
me. My van is still running a little rough. I had the distributor and
the air flow meter swapped here in Houma (I had spare parts) but the
poor old thing is really tired.
Hasta la vista,
Jeanne
