Well..my speedometer was funky.  I took the whole Instrument Cluster over to a local shop.  He fixed it...to the tune of $250.  He was well educated in Vanagon nonsense.  Also, I discovered my Tachometer was also non-complient...it sort of got stuck, did all kinds of whackiness.  Turns out, it was only a stubborn bit of dried grease.  I fixed it myself.
