The chaps at EV West make conversion kits that are pretty much turnkey.
Minimal mods to the VW and easily reversible. Kinda pricey but not a
terrible option. They've been in development for a Vanagon one for quite
a while now, as of the last update I got in Oct they were getting close,
having the prototype parts cut at their laser cutter place.

The aircooled kits generally use the stock transmission AFAIK but the
Vanagon will be a full Tesla motor and drive system. Be interesting to
see what it comes out at pricewise.

The motor on my '84 is a bit tired so the EV option is interesting if it
ends up with a decent price point (kinda doubt that tho).
