Subject:Closet door mod

Hi folks,

There are many ways to modify the closet doors. My 84 came with an added side door. It is the same as the one under the utility drawer.

I found this very handy when camping. It was high enough to clear my topper and other items so could be opened most of the time. Much better access than the narrow door. And now I could use my full size table.

So, with the help of a wood worker friend. We made a template and cut the opening in the side of the cabinet. I was terrified. But, it came out great. At least so far. We are debating cutting the groove on the inside for the trim. My 84 does not have trim. The current opening is nicely done so I’m not sure. Only glitch is I’m lacking a metal latch part, but.
 I’ll figure that out.

Others do different opening, sliding doors, or garage door roll top desk. These work better for access. But, I like the look and sturdiness of the original cabinet door.

I hope others are having winter project successes.

And, what closet mods have you done?

Eric Caron
