Subject:Lower ball joint question

Hi folks,

So, both my lower ball joint boots, on my 84, were ripped.

Last year a friend replaced the driver side boot and inspected the joint. It was good with no play. We cleaned greased and it is good with the new boot.

We recently did the same to the passenger side, but this time my friend said there was play in the joint and he would recommend we replace it.

So, it is working for the moment but I’m wondering if anyone has a source for a good quality lower ball joint?

The concern is, I don’t want to either have a friend help do it, or get it done with a poor quality part. And, that has bitten me lately.

Or, is this something I can get good used original VW.

I’m not sure as I was lazy and let my friend do the work quickly so I didn’t get my hands on the parts as I usually do.

Tips on this job, and source for a German part appreciated.
