Hi Eric,

I use fastmail.com for email, set to sending and receiving HTML rather than plain text.  I like Fastmail mostly because I don't like Google hanging on to my emails forever.  I can't change that but I can stop adding to their stockpile.  Fastmail is hosted in Australia, costs $100/year and has been an excellent service.

As for my operating system, I use Linux in its Ubuntu flavour.  There is a ton of free software for Linux in virtually every category.  I have never regretted moving to Linux about 10 years ago and it just keeps getting better and better.
