Possible. But having those ancient plastic blue caps blow may have saved head gaskets sacrificially. A lot of guys including myself have opted for the rugged welded Aluminum Pressure tank with stout pressure cap; but even those are designed to blow, I guess to prevent worse damage. Those are typically rated at around 16 PSI or so.
