These screws are labeled don’t touch. 

As jack was dead what was the harm?

I opened the bleeder screws, actually removed them.  I pumped handle and it returned slowly to normal  behavior.  I replaced the screws and tested the jack by raising the front of my van.

Three hours later it was still up and had not dropped. 

I’m calling that good and returning the unopened jack to HF. 

I’ve learned how to bleed a floor jack and been reminded to never trust the jack and get the jack stands in place ASAP.

I wanted to post the solution in case this helps others on this list.
