Subject:Grease on axel

Hi All.
I'm just about to leave on a short trip.  An hours' drive across MA to Greenfield to do a backyard campout with far flung friends.  On Sunday a 3 hour drive up to Crawford Notch in NH to do a couple of days hiking and looking for foliage, 3 days there.  Then a 2.5-hour drive home.  Problem is, I noticed my driver's side inboard (next to trans) axel has grease on it.  Maybe a bad boot.  So am I making a problem for myself doing this trip.  It would be a shame not to be able to do it, but worse if a CV joint failed. What is the list wisdom on this one??  Supposed to leave today.
