Following Alastair's mention of Greg Eaton's dimmable LED replacement for the
later model kitchen light having the three festoon bulbs, I ordered one. $60 +
$8 shipping, arrived in a few days from Victoria, BC. Installation could not
be easier: remove plastic diffuser from fixture housing, if necessary bend the
bulb clips to grip tighter, and snap in the full-length LED strip, re-install
the diffuser.
Not mentioned in this discussion is the fact that this LED strip contains a
little spring that acts as an antenna that senses your body capacitance and
operates as a touchless switch through the plastic diffuser. Short touches
cycle the light on and off, longer touches brighten and dim the LEDs. If you
leave the original, stock rocker switch in the "on" position, and use only the
touchless switch to operate the light, the brightness setting is retained when
the light is again turned on.
If you have the later version of the kitchen light, this is a great upgrade.
