I just remember the town was the same one you mentioned. It was a sweet little town. We rented the canoe there.
I remember the islands so private and beautiful. But, needed to have the tent ready to hide in during sun set for the bugs.
The out door toilets were great as my partner said they always pointed either toward sunrise or sunset for a nice view while sitting there. She appreciated that!
We traveled in the 76 weekender. Still a favorite van of mine despite many breakdowns. I bought it from a VW mechanic and it was pretty much completely worn out.
Still I traveled with a tandem bike on the back seat and touring gear, and backpacking gear and canoe trip gear only rented the canoe. I have a great picture of our camp with all this around the bus.
That picture was spotted on my work wall by a student in 2013 and she told me about a bus for sale. I looked at it and then started searching for my next vanagon.
I hope never to be without one again.
Sure miss that 76 pop top weekender though!
