Being that I am 6’2” & have 36” sleeve length, I’ve never thought to try that
but it sounds like a recipe for falling on your face between the front seats once the
roof gives up its fight,, Or maybe dangling from the bar if you are short ~
I opted for the Assist Struts a few years ago & am now a huge advocate for
them ~ Even though @ 77 I am still able to put a canoe on the roof, lifting the roof
just with empty canoe rack bars was causing My back & shoulders to scream nasties
@ Me ~ Now I can even easily lift the roof even with the canoe still up there ~
& by the way,, I use the CrossBar to lift,, Been doing it that way since My very
1st Westy in ’79 & have never bent 1 ~
