Subject:Re: Oil Light On Update

Be careful you don't over fill the oil. The 2 marks on the dip stick mark the
normal oil level range. I found years ago that my 2.1 l would use oil until
it got to the 1/3 above the bottom line level. When I finally got an oil temp
gauge (drain plug sensor) I could clearly see high oil temps when full and
lower temps near the bottom of the range.

I don't have the temp data info close at hand but I wrote a few notes to the
List about this. I also found that drafting caused oil temp to rise. I don't
know if this was the result of radiator performance or wind on the engine.
Evidently there is a significant amount of air cooling on the engine
crankcase. Can you believe that? Air cooling on a VW? Wonders will never
cease!

Good luck,
Ed
