Do you mean the whole upper cabinet or the plenum inside?

Never removed those but I did remove the whole plastic plenum and now get mucho airflow to the front. Doing this does leave an unfinished look to the front of the upper cabinet but some have fashioned grilles to dress things up. I haven’t bothered.
