Subject:Circlip for hatch struts

Went to replace my hatch struts and the circlips broke upon removal.Did not get new ones with the replacement struts.Does anyone know the specs for the circlips and if they would be obtainable at a hardware store?I was hoping to finish this job today.Now I'm completely stuck.
