It's Friday!  Time to post crazy stuff.

It was 1974.  I was 20.  (Do the math.) Bought a '70 VW bus passenger van.  Spent about 3 weekends taking out the seats, building a bed and cabinets, swap meet Coleman Stove for $3, ice chest, a flashlight.  Sleeping bags.  Van already had curtains.  Yep, good to go.

So....I decided to see the USA.  Well, at least about 15,000 miles of it on a 2 month college student adventure!  

Headed towards Colorado.  Parked in a motel parking lot in Cortez for overnight (that was my usual MO).  Next morning, saw a big tourbus parked outside motel rooms.  Like 20 motel rooms....all with their doors wide open!  Apparently the Tour had indicated to participants to do that.  So....I'm in the very middle...about 10 doors left and 10 doors right.

I had been on the road for about 4 days.  I was a little stinky.  I KNEW there were hot showers inside.  Everybody had already boarded the Tourbus.  I saw Opportunity!  Believe it or not, I took it!  Raced inside, closed the room door, took a hot shower!, raced back outside....back to Van.

As it turns out, the motel cleaning staff also arrived at the same time.  There were two.  One started on the left, one started on the middle.  I was in the middle!!!  Both worked to the right.  I was an ounce away from being caught!

I only realized the whole situation once I was back into Van.  Put the pedal down, and got outta there.  And, lived to tell the story.  Whew...the things you do when you are 20.
