To answer Toms' question with or without AC the functionality of the  Fan
Thermoswitch doesn't change, except that when you turn the AC on the fan
will be ON at low speed. I have AC on my van but I don't need it so I
remove the belt. When I want the fan ON manually I turn ON the AC
(compressor not ON because no belt). This way I can control the activation
of the rad. fan in traffic or on an inclined road.
Mark (vw_van_fan_Mark) has a way to wire a toggle switch to activate the
fan manually.
